On January 21, 1972, Meghalaya was founded by splitting out two districts from Assam: the United Khasi Hills and Jaintia Hills, and the Garo Hills. Meghalaya was once a part of Assam, but on January 21, 1972, the districts of Khasi, Garo, and Jaintia hills were separated from Assam and formed the new state of Meghalaya.
Shillong (Meghalaya Travel Package)
Shillong is a hill station and the capital of Meghalaya, as well as the country’s sole hill station with access from all directions. Shillong gets its name from U-Shyllong, a powerful deity, and is located at an elevation of 1,491 metres above sea level. The city is situated in the middle of a flat surrounded by hills. Guwahati is roughly 80-90 kilometres away from this lovely city. Shillong is the educational heart of the entire Northeast, thanks to the presence of numerous well-regarded educational institutions, many of which were founded by various missionary groups. Shillong has a westernized culture and a youthful atmosphere. Shillong is also known as India’s music capital, with several well-known musicians hailing from the city.

Cherrapunji
Sohra, formerly Cherrapunji, is a sub-division in Meghalaya’s East Khasi Hills District, located on a plateau on the state’s southern slopes. Waterfalls falling over deep gorges abound at Sohra. The swift-flowing rivers and streams flow to the plains in a southerly direction. It is of the world’s most eco-friendly places, with the distinction of receiving the world’s most rainfall. It’s a great spot to learn about the Indian summer monsoons because it’s set against a beautiful setting. The south west monsoon and the north east winds have a direct influence on this annual meteorological phenomenon. The intense monsoon rains that fall over these mountains generate one of the world’s most bio-diverse vegetation in Sohra. In north-east India, there is a very gorgeous region waiting to be discovered and explored.

Dawki
This little settlement in the heart of the Jaintia Hills is located on the India-Bangladesh border. Another stunning natural wonder in Meghalaya, this town is most known for exporting coal to Bangladesh and other parts of India. The Dawki Bridge is the main attraction here, aside from the breathtaking natural beauty and tranquilly. It is a suspension bridge that spans the Umngot River and provides amazing panoramic views for all visitors. The green colour of the Dawki river is one of the main attractions of the area, which has resulted in a boom in Dawki tourism in recent years.
